Do you have a hard time remembering what and when you have to file? Use this calendar to make sure you have a plan in place to stay compliant.

This calendar is reproduced from IRS Publication 509, and may not necessarily be an exhaustive list. Additionally, it does not consider state filing requirements. However, I still think this is a great resource, and I use it all the time!

If you click this link, the IRS has more info on payroll taxes and excise taxes, since some taxpayers have to worry about these as well.

The self-employed pay tax very differently than a "standard" W-2 employee would, and it is very easy to get behind unless you have a proactive, systematic process in place for managing your business finances.

I encourage all my clients to implement a monthly financial closing process, even if they do it themselves. I used to work for a CPA who said that "you can't manage what you can't measure" and I strongly believe that to be true.

With a monthly close, you can get on top of your estimated tax payments and make informed decisions that help you maximize the profitability and value of your business, all while moving you closer to your personal financial goals.
